JLF resources progressive Jewish movement-building in the United States. We administer grants through Proteus Fund, a U.S. public charity that is recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. As a result, our prospective grantees need to meet certain legal and organizational requirements to be eligible for funding.

We also have a set of criteria and priorities that we use to make our funding decisions. Because we value transparency as a funder and also value the time it takes to submit an application, all of these details are outlined in our RFP linked above. Ultimately, our goal is to fund organizations who align with our values and are an active part of advancing progressive systems-change.

who should apply for JLF Grants→

The estimated 2026 JLF grantmaking timeline is as follows. Exact dates may shift slightly based on factors beyond our control, and we will update applicants accordingly:

Pre-Application

• We held an information session on April 16th.

Letter of Interest (LOI) Phase

• April 29th at 9am Eastern: Due date to begin application. All organizations wishing to be considered for a JLF grant must declare their intent to apply by beginning their application by this time.

• May 4th at 12pm Eastern: LOI due.

• June 8th: Grantmaking decisions communicated for LOI Phase; organizations invited to submit full proposal.

Full Proposal Phase

• June 8th: Invitation for full proposals sent out.

• June 29th: Full Proposals due.

• July 26th- August 6th: Opportunity to answer questions from Community Grantmaking Team.

• End of August: grantmaking recommendations communicated.

• End of October: Grants disbursed.

This year, JLF has updated our grantmaking to include a number of different grant categories to meet the needs of the diverse set of applicants who apply for JLF grants and to ensure a fair and equitable grantmaking process. They include:
